John hasn’t attempted to start the engine, but it does turn over, so that’s promising. This one’s engine bay is complete, but showing rust issues. It was rated at 300 horsepower, although there was a short-lived Tripower model that generated 345 horsepower, and gave the car plenty of grunt to be a very comfortable high-speed cruiser. To tie everything together, the seats were covered in white leather and featured unique badging.įord’s 390 V8 was the standard engine for the 3rd generation Thunderbird and offered a decent amount of performance. The dash pad and carpet were also Dark Rose Beige paired with simulated rosewood trim throughout the cabin. All two thousand cars were painted Corinthian White with a Dark Rose Beige roof. The Monaco Edition was primarily a special color combo with the Landau top, but the steering wheel and trim were unique to these cars. Thankfully, the special edition parts appear to be present and with just 2,000 cars built with this option package, it has some added desirability. These cars are finally starting to appreciate in value enough to justify giving one a complete restoration, but this one is going to be a substantial undertaking. This car is in need of a full restoration, as it has rust issues. John is asking $5,000, but is open to offers, as he hopes to see it go to a good home. This 1963 example, which is being offered here in the Barn Finds Classified by reader John E, is a rare Limited Edition Landau or more commonly known as the Principality of Monaco Edition! If you are a fan of these Birds, this one is definitely worth a closer look. Personally, I think the 3rd generation of Thunderbirds was a high watermark, with the perfect blend of style, power, and luxury. Due to its success, Ford continued to develop the T-Bird for more than just a few decades, with each new generation adding more luxury features to the mix. Few did it as well as the Thunderbird though and it showed in sales. It proved to be extremely popular and led to a whole slew of personal luxury cars. Rather than being a sports car with some luxury features, the Thunderbird was a luxury car with some sports car features. in cooperation with the seller. When Ford introduced the Thunderbird, it was meant to compete with the Corvette, but ended up carving out its own niche. The buyer will be responsible for coordinating and arranging Shipping and/or Pick-up. The car is currently located in a secure storage facility. NOTE: The original title is lost and in the process of being replaced. I am selling because I simply do not have the time to spend on this car that it deserves. The gentlemanwe purchasedthe carfrom said it was running and he was driving itbefore he parked it in thegarage4 or5years ago. The best description I can come up with is "Barn Fresh Original" There is a little rust on the quarter panelsthat can be repaired and the trunk floor will likely need to be replaced if restoring. It does need some TLC to be bought back to it's former glory, however, most ofthe parts are there, intact and can be restored (even the hubcaps). This Car is number 1776 of 2000 and was found in the garage of a 100 year old house in midtown Kansas City.It isthe 63B trim package with the single exhaust 390/300horse single exhaust 'Z' Code V8.The mileage is 88,032. The '63 Birds all came Standard with a single exhaust 390/300 horse "Z" Code V8 but, a few were equipped with the "Thunderbird Special" dual exhaust ', and larger Holley Carb which produced 330 h.p. This special model cost an amazing $200 more than the 'regular', standard issue Bird and had a base price of $4,748. They also were accented with Simulated Rosewood Accents on the Dash and Door panels (instead of Walnut or Ribbed Metal of the Convertible). Plus, each car featured the "S" Landau Bar on the side of the Hardtop, a Special Badge emblazoned with the Crest of Monaco on the dash with number built (1 to 2,000). Each carried Special Spinner Hubcaps, Gold Piping on the Seats, Gold Inserts on the Hubcaps and the Rim of the Steering Wheel. Each were built in Corinthian White and had White Leather or Vinyl Bucket Seats, White Steering Wheel, and Dark Rose Colored Long Grain Vinyl Tops. Of those, only 2,000 were the Special Edition Principality of Monaco Thunderbirds. Ford built 42,806 'Standard' Thunderbird Coupes in 1963, however, only 14,139 had the optional Landau Coupe body with the 63B nomenclature on the Trim Tag. Introduced, in the spring of 1963 (Ford traditionally introduces new models in September), they instantly became known as the "Princess Monaco T-Bird". There are less than 30 still known to exist. Only 2,000 of these unique cars were built. This is one of those odd, Limited Edition Automobiles that only a crazed Ford Nut or Thunderbird Aficionado might be aware Ford ever offered.
